|if you ever were a graduate student, you might like this link!
It's been an awful long time since I last posted, but this time it's only a little more than 1 year! Grad school is still kicking my butt, especially as I'm now hitting the home stretch to hopefully defend my thesis at some point this summer. The semester is over and I've finished all my grading, so now I'm DONE TA'ing for the rest of my life! I might teach again someday, but I'll never be a TA at the beck and call of professors who leave a LOT of things unsaid during lecture and rely on me to pick up the pieces. YAY. Now just to finish experiments, write my paper/dissertation, find a job, schedule a defense data, and finish! Oh gee, that'll be no problem at ALL.
This tumblr has popped up in a few of my FB friends' pages and I figured I'd post it here too since I know some people on my friendslist are also scientists and could probably use the laugh. And for anyone who isn't a scientist/grad student and would like to know what my job is like, these are SO ACCURATE and convey the experience better than I ever could in my own words!

And here's a teaser....this one is my favorite (and represents my LIFE for the past several years):http://whatshouldwecallgradschool.tumblr.com/post/22147426041/coming-home-after-a-day-of-failed-experiments

Sorry to clog up friends' lists with such a pointless post, but I thought it would be a good idea to just check in with an actual post here so my journal doesn't seem too dead. I've been around, commenting in friends' journals and communities, but there isn't enough going on in my desperate-grad-student life worth posting about. Thanks to everyone on my friends list for helping to keep my life interesting - I don't know what I'd do without LJ to help me connect with people that have similar interests as I do that don't
Also - I came within a hair's breadth of adopting a rabbit not too long ago - I've done tons of research and spoken to people with house-bunnies, but I figured I'd also bring it up here in case anyone has any advice about being a bunny owner. I've made an offer to an undergrad in my lab to take her bunny if she can't take him with her when she graduates, so we'll see what happens come May :)

|I need to post more pictures to look at while I'm at work
No, I haven't forgotten this thing...
I was feeling grouchy at work the other day, and looking at pictures of Duncan always makes me feel better...so I'm putting these up so I'll have more to look at when I'm not home with my own computer :)
These pictures are from last spring...we gave Duncan a new ball, cause for much excitement and joy around our house...

|Couple more pics
So I didn't get any good pictures of Duncan over my winter break because he was moving too darn fast the whole time. Well, except for the first couple days I was home...he had Lyme disease and was sooo lethargic and sad I couldn't bring myself to take pictures. Thank goodness antibiotics are still so effective against it, he was feeling 100% in a day or so after starting the medicine (and getting fat on the little bits of banana he gets his pills in).
I came across a few more pictures of him stashed on my parents' computer though, from a couple years ago. Just had to share cause he's being silly in all of them!
Look, he can beg *and* sing at the same time! (and yes, his belly fur *is* as soft and fluffy and white as it looks!)

|A first post
I've never been good at keeping a journal; I pretty much only created this one for the purpose of being able to comment at the other journals and communities I visit. Though there will probably be plenty of pictures posted here each time I go home to my parents' house - I tend to get a bit obsessive with the camera when the dog is around :)
For now, this is the only thing that matters:
His name is Duncan, he's a 4-year old Australian Shepherd and happens to be the most best dog ever. We got him a few months before I left home for my freshman year of college, but he and I had plenty of bonding time before I left. He's pretty much the love of my life (but don't tell my boyfriend!)
